Oscar Picks – because I have to

Who will win

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire (although it may go to Benjamin Button or The Reader – either of which would render this award meaningless, possibly forever)

Best Director: David Fincher (That Button is nominated at all proves Fincher & co have been doing some serious campaigning, which is more likely to win him a personal award than kudos for the film itself)

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke

Best Actress: Kate Winslet for The Reader (She’s the best thing in that film, but it’s still a shitty film.)

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger

Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams (This category is a complete toss-up.  Even money across the board.  But the Oscars love an ingenue, an up-and-coming actress who looks great in the pictures the next day.  If Adams does win, expect her to star in a crappy action movie within 2 years, which will ruin her career.  Spur of the moment prediction: Adams wins the Oscar and takes on the role of Catwoman in Batman 3 in Summer 2010.)

Who should win

Best Picture:In Bruges (not nominated)

Best Director:Danny Boyle (The award is called “Achievement in Directing,” and any film shot in the slums of Mumbai, in multiple languages, which goes on to global success among the art house and blockbuster crowds alike IS an achievement in directing.)

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke

Best Actress: Either Anne Hathaway or Meryl Streep.

Best Supporting Actor: Brendan Gleason (not even nominated)

Best Supporting Actress: Viola Davis
