Tron 2.0

Children of the Eighties, take notice: Disney is making another Tron movie.

The original is now a (camp?) classic.  The effects were dazzling in 1982, but gee they look funny now.  That is the particular charm of Tron, and it can’t be replicated.

So what exactly is the strategy for updating this movie?  Not sure, but a guy named Joseph Kosinski is directing, and his only other credit on imdb.com is the upcoming remake of Logan’s Run.  I’m starting to get a bad feeling…

Jeff Bridges is already committed, but no indication yet whether Cindy Morgan – you KNOW you had a crush on her – will make an appearance.

I guess the positive perspective here is that current effects and the way computers have developed since those dinosaurs we were using (actually, most of us weren’t yet using) in 1982 leaves open much possibility for visual sophistication and story development.  Let’s hope this Kosinski person actually has some talented and isn’t just a fanboy rehashing his childhood obsessions.
